The homeowner is a musician, teaches music theory, and performs. He wanted a color theory native garden to replace a lawn.

Color is achieved by repeating brightly colored species, like lilac verbena, to create a visual rhythm. The colors were balanced with dwarf bright green coyote brush to provide the "bones" to the composition.
Another plant species provides a warm compliment to the lilac, a hummingbird fuchsia selection. Alrie chose very dark mulch to help emphasize the contrasting color palette.
